Spanner Squad Project Newsletter #6: April Update
What has been happening in the world of The Spanner Squad?
Connections
So nice to connect with Shaelene Hancock from LifeFlight Australia, who has some amazing connections through her history of philanthropic fundraising. LifeFlight benefits so much from Shaelene’s work.
The Spanner Squad can’t really expect philanthropic contributions of the kind that keeps LifeFlight in the air! But Shaelene has plenty of ideas about partnerships, collaborations, angel investment, and even wide-ranging fundraising efforts like crowdfunding.
Spanner Squad Project Newsletter #5: March 2026 Update
Greetings Advisory Board members!
What has been happening in the world of The Spanner Squad?
We had a great reaction to our last newsletter, describing some of the locations for The Spanner Squad stories.
One of the Advisory Board members asked, “Why Sydney Airport?” Well, although the picture shows it as Sydney Airport, it won’t be called Sydney Airport as such. But we needed an airport that was on the ocean or a bay, to allow Noriko and Catwa to go fishing after work.
Spanner Squad Newsletter #3: Introducing the Spanner Squad Characters!
Introducing … The Spanner Squad Characters!
We propose 9 core characters in the Spanner Squad, plus a number of other characters depicting other roles within an airline, and visitors from other airlines.
Most of the action takes place in Australia, at a big airport.
Please bear in mind, these are just general character descriptions that will evolve. The images are just suggested likenesses. For some characters, we have started creating more complexity in their back stories, because this will inform the personality of the character and how they act.
Spanner Squad Newsletter #2: Latest Updates on Championing Inclusivity in STEM
Update on the Squad!
Dear Spanner Squad Advisory Board!
It has been a hectic month since I sent our first newsletter in August.
I (Denis) travelled to Singapore for the APATS Conference, where I renewed friendship with (among others) Rachel Marie Anthony from Boeing, who was one of the original supporters of the Spanner Squad idea when it was just in its infancy 12 months ago.
From left to right: 1. David Cirulli from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Singapore, 2. Stuart Membrey who was the moderator of the Maintenance stream at the APATS conference, 3. Rachel and 4. Denis.
